Today at the Agriplex at the Western Fair, the London Economic Development Corporation, better known as the LEDC, is hosting their annual job fair which will include 83 companies with over 2500 open positions ready to be filled. It is one of the best times for people who are struggling to find work, with a wide selection of different companies to choose from.
Finding a job right out of school can be tough and scary. Robert Collins is the Director of Workforce Development for the LEDC, and says that students should start looking for their job before they even start school.
“Their job search should start once they start school not at the end” says Collins.
“The first thing is they need to start attending everything in career services programs at Fanshawe or Western or any of the affiliated colleges. Whenever there is an employer on campus they need to meet with them, wherever they see there is a job fair.”
Robert adds that the programs with co-ops and internships are the best for experience because you can build a connection with an employer.
Robert also gives advice for people who aren’t students who may be looking for a new line of work.
“Go to LEDC’s website and look at the great companies that are here in London, go onto websites like London manufacturing jobs, London tech jobs, to see the range of opportunities that are in our community.”
The job fair will end at 7:00 tonight, and is being held at the Agriplex at the Western Fair at 845 Florence Street.
