The return of snowfall in the forest city has been brief thus far with much more to come over the next few months. With this so called winter wonderland being thrusted upon us, the task of shoveling is one that will become frequently needed. Unfortunately, some people such as seniors or those battling health issues, are unable to take care of this white blanket like snow that covers sidewalks and driveways. Luckily Snow Angels London is set to help those in need through their cost-free service done by volunteers.
“It’s almost a matchmaking service, what we do is tell people to register on the website either as a volunteer or someone who needs their snow cleared.” Said Lincoln McCardle, the creator of Snow Angels London.
Those looking for aid with snow removal can simply choose a volunteer on the website, that person will come shovel for that day, and sometimes even all winter. McCardle started the service after shoveling his neighbour’s driveway, only to realize how many other may be in need of the same service.
“Seniors if their physically unable to shovel or have difficulty shoveling, then winter can be a tough time where their basically trapped inside.” Said McCardle.
While Snow Angels was created with the purpose of helping shovel, it has grown into a way to strengthen the community.
“Old people sometimes refer to the good old days where you had a lot more connections whether it be through schools or things like that, I think this is a small step to get back to that.” said Lincoln McCardle.
McCardle also known as the snow Archangel has seen the community rise around Snow Angels, as they have about two volunteers for every one person in need.
“I call it an experiment in kindness, you give people a chance to help someone will they do it? The answer so far has been yes.” Said London’s snow Archangel.
McCardle is happy with the growth that London Snow Angels has seen, but still aspires for it to become Snow Angels Ontario and one day Snow Angels Canada.
Both those in need of help shoveling, as well as those looking to volunteer can do so on their website https://snowangelscanada.ca
