The Chef’s Table is a Fanshawe College ran restaurant in the downtown campus. The restaurant has only been around for a couple of years but has seen some amazing changes over the time and has helped many students get real life experience working in the restaurant. Despite it being located at the Fanshawe downtown campus it is a public restaurant for everyone to come and enjoy. They have something for everyone to enjoy as with the food industry always changing with things like plant-based products and vegan foods becoming very popular they ensure they are changing with it.
It’s a great opportunity for students and teachers to work together in a real-life situation of having to deal with slip ups and customers from the city coming in to eat. The customers understand when they go to The Chef’s Table that it’s a student learning situation as well so everything might not always run perfectly.
Kyle Fee, One of the Chef’s at The Chef’s Table said, “The feedback has been great to this point as when people come in, they understand that this is a new experience for many students too.”
The food industry has changed so much since Fanshawe opened this restaurant and they have had to make some changes along the way to their menu as well. It’s now at least 50% plant based and vegetarian food so for a lot of the people that are looking to eating that way now there will be new tasty choices for them as well.
This is a fantastic learning experience overall for the students and school. As for the kids that are in Culinary Programs, they are being taught all the different styles of cooking so in the future they aren’t only trained in one field of cooking. It allows them to learn and in a real-life environment through the restaurant and having to deal with customers. The Chef’s Table has great food for everyone to enjoy and service that will always try their very best to make the customer happy.
