The Ontario Hockey League has cancelled their season as have many other sports leagues if not put on hold for now. For anyone involved in the sports world they have been affected by Covid-19 as right now there are no sports being played. Some people might be affected more than others by this and by the season coming to an early end.
The London Knights were surging towards the playoffs as it seemed like everything was clicking at the perfect time for the team. They were in 1st place in the OHL’s Western conference at (45-15-1-1) riding a 7-game winning streak with only 6 games remaining in the regular season. The Knights had three players that were in their last season in the Canadian Hockey League so for it to end like this is bittersweet for them and the fans that won’t get to see them suit up in a Knights uniform again.
Dylan Myskiw is one of the three players that won’t be returning to the CHL as this was his final season due to age. This was his first and what will be his only season as a London Knight. He was previously a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings, the Brandon Wheat Kings and finally the first team he played for the Victoria Royals. Dylan explains how this was an interesting way to end the season.
“It’s not the ideal way you want to end the season, it’s something that hasn’t happened before and it kind of surprised all of us, every 20 year old doesn’t want to grow through it but yea it’s definitely a tough way to end the year.”
With the season ending and London sitting in 1st place in the Western conference and on a 7-game win streak they really felt as though they had a good shot to win it all this year.
Myskiw tells XFM how they felt. “We knew we had a good team throughout the whole year, and we were confident in our team and a very close group of guys in the room and we knew we had something special going this year.”
With the early conclusion to the season the London Knights were in 1st place and were awarded for that as they were named Midwest Division Champs for the second straight season. That is something that the Knights were able to take some pride in despite the way the season ended.
Dylan Myskiw only spent one season on the London Knights as before coming over to the OHL this past season he had spent the previous 3 years playing in the Western Hockey League. It was a season of ups and downs for Dylan as he had to face some adversity. Despite all of that he still only had great things to say about his time on the London Knights.
“I enjoyed my time with the Knights, it wasn’t exactly how I planned my season to go but you have to adapt to certain things and the Knights have a great organization, great staff, and a very comforting place to play.”
With this being Myskiw’s last season in the CHL it leaves the question of what is next for the Knights former Goaltender. In the past Dylan has been involved in some acting as he was hoping to be an extra for a movie called ‘Flag Day’ being shot in his hometown of Winnipeg but ended up filling in for an actor that was playing a significant role. The people he was working with were very pleased with his work and ever since he has been getting offers to work in other movies, but his focus has stuck with hockey. That’s not to say he isn’t interested in exploring the world of acting more.
“It’s definitely something I would like to continue, working on different movies. It’s been in the back of my head of trying to pursue it or thinking about how I will go about it, but it was definitely a cool experience and I had a lot of fun with it so it’s up there in consideration.
Despite Dylan being interested in acting and where that could end up his focus is still on hockey and hopefully one day making it to the NHL.
“I’m going to keep playing hockey as long as I can, my next journey wherever I play if it’s University hockey or not just continue on trying to make it pro, if I go University hockey play my time there get some hard work done and get recognized to go pro wherever it is.” Myskiw says.
Myskiw finished his only season with the London Knights playing in 23 games recording 12 wins, and 6 losses. Over the course of his entire CHL career between playing in the WHL and OHL and 4 different teams he had 108 games played, 55 wins, 27 losses, and 3 ties. Dylan Myskiw had a great CHL career and has a bright future in hockey and hopefully acting as well.
