Ontarians will soon have a better idea of the re-opening of the province. Premier Doug Ford is expected to announce plans to begin ‘stage 1’ of the province’s economic recovery plan at a briefing scheduled for tomorrow.
While few details have been provided for the announcement, Ford promised “good news” for Ontarians.
“It will be stage one of three stages,” said Ford at his daily briefing on Tuesday. “We will share more good news about getting people back to work, more good news about opening workplaces.”
This week saw the re-opening of retail stores for curbside pickup and delivery, while hardware stores and garden stores have now fully re-opened to the public.
‘Stage 1’ of Ontario’s recovery plan includes:
- The opening of businesses that are able to comply with social distancing and public health recommendations
- The opening of some outdoor parks and spaces
- Allowing greater numbers of people to attend events such as funerals
- Allowing hospitals to perform some non-urgent surgeries
- Continued protection for vulnerable populations
As for tomorrow’s announcement, the Premier says that Ontario residents have followed all protocols, and that the province will likely be looking to open more workplaces and seasonal businesses.
