The City of London is entering the second phase of the Old Victoria Hospital lands redevelopment process. After receiving Council approval to dispose of surplus lands associated with the City is looking to sell. The site was home to the London Health Sciences Centre hospital facilities until the last patients were moved to new hospital facilities in 2013.
The first phase included the designation of the property associated with the Colborne Building being designated under part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act as a Cultural Heritage site. While the properties associated with the Health Services Building and the 1922 portion of the War Memorial Children’s Hospital are listed on the Register of Cultural Heritage Resources. They are expected to be individually designated as part of the second phase.
The second phase of the redevelopment will include the selling of 124 Colborne Street and the lands bounded by Waterloo Street, South Street, Colborne Street, and Hill Street. The land the city is selling includes both of the buildings that are listed on the Register of Cultural Heritage Resources.
The City says that the disposition of the land is an important step in the future redevelopment of the site. Which includes the future construction of a public square. Construction on the redevelopment could begin sometime this year. Details of the tender sale and opportunities are currently listed on the City’s website.
