The month of November is the month when the city of London shines purple. The month when we raise awareness of violence against women and show our support to abused women.
There are many events that take place, but their next event is on November 13. On Friday, wear something purple to show your support to women and girls who have experienced abuse, and to raise awareness of violence against women.
Fabienne Haller is the coordinator of Fund Development and the Shine the Light campaign at the London Abused Women’s Center (LAWC) and she highlights that you can show your support by wearing “a scarf, a purple tie, purple socks, purple shirt, purple pants, anything purple will really be appreciated.”
Haller highlights that LAWC is selling some merchandise that you can get but they encourage people to “try to use what you have in your closet or even go to the second-hand store.”
They encourage the community to take part, wear something purple to show their support, and “share your participation on your social media platform,” she said.
The colour purple symbolizes courage, survival, and the fight to end woman abuse. It signifies that we stand in solidarity and support women who have experiences abuse from their partner and people they know.
This Friday wear your heart on your sleeve- wear purple to support women, take a stand as a community, and fight to end violence against women.
