Local, adored vegan-friendly bakery & cafe, The Boombox Bakeshop, was broken into earlier this week, and so was there neighbour Os and & Oakes. The bakeshop is very popular being one of the few vegan bakeries. Forest city was quite distraught, with more than 500 comments on an Instagram post that the business released to give the break-in news.
Owner Alexandra Connon came to work with a not wanted surprise, her store was destroyed. From birthday cakes, cooking supplies, and the work phone, the store was a mess.
The Boombox bakery shared an Instagram post to give the community an update, with the title “we have good news, and bad news”. The post stated that, they want to thank everyone for their continued support.
“We have received thousands of messages over the weekend. offers to help clean. People coming with food, coffee, and kind words to our door.”
The business expressed that they feel blessed to have the community behind them. The shop will remain closed until further notice. They are in the process of completely sanitizing everything, purchasing new equipment, and restocking our ingredients. The bakery does not have a reopening date and will be contacting everyone regarding their orders and issuing refunds.
Good news: Over Remembrance Day, Boombox Bakeshop and the community raised 605 dollars for the Adopt-A-Vet, a non-profit charity. Adopt-A-Vet is comprised of current and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces whose common vision is to make sure no Veteran is forgotten and never feels alone.
“We were able to present them with this money over the weekend. The funds will be used to assist our Veterans,”
Visit www.adoptavet.ca. to learn more about the work they do, or to donate.
The Boombox Bakeshop appreciates everyone’s help, and support.
