Musicians are coming together to throw a telethon-type event. The event is being organized by Brian Vollmer, vocalist and member of the renowned rock band, Helix.
Tristan Roby, 18, was seriously hurt in a 2019 in a hit-and-run crash while riding his bike, leaving him in a coma for weeks and in hospital for months. A stem cell treatment is also giving hope to young cyclist.
The fundraiser is taking place in the month of February. Helix released an “Old School Album” two years ago and if you buy a shirt from that album all the proceeds go to the Roby family.
“We will deliver for free. A good friend and cab driver will be delivering, and all orders made outside the city can go to the Helix website.”
Vollmer asked artist to record an acoustic song and all the videos will be streamed on February 27th.
Already, 10 artists have answered Vollmer’s call, including rockers Lee Aaron, Ray Lyell and Danko Jones, London’s Bobnoxious, singer Sarah Smith, Al Harlow and rock band Syre.
Vollmer said that, “giving back to the community is what Helix is all about”.
Vollmer said he’s not setting a goal for the fundraiser; he wants to raise as much as possible.
“I’m sure he’s going to need more than just one treatment.”
Vollmer feels that the story of Tristan’s journey stood out to him because he was busy thinking about his “own problems with COVID-19 pandemic” and then he saw his story.
“He lost everything in a split second”.
Not only is Vollmer inspired by Tristan’s journey, but he is empowered by Abby Roby, Tristans mom.
“She has a lot of things she had to take care of. She has completely renovated her life. She needs our support. She was very grateful, very grateful she thanked me a thousand times. I said it’s okay just want to get this money for or your son.”
