As London moves into the provincial red zone, businesses across the city are frantically getting ready to open their doors once again.
Nicole Patsalis is the co-owner of the Singing Chef along Fanshawe Park Road, and she says that everything came down to the last minute. “You can’t prepare [to reopen so urgently] that’s the thing. It’s a challenge,” says Patsalis.
Patsalis says that there are a number of things that her and her husband need re-evaluate from food supply to staff members. “Our staff is patiently waiting at home. The reality is because we’re in red, we can’t bring them all back,” says Patsalis.
The Singing Chef like many other businesses around the city were hoping that London would land in the orange zone. Patsalis says that the difference between red and orange is huge.
“It makes a huge impact to our business. We consider our customers as family. We’re just hopeful that one day we can open our doors to a bigger capacity and see those faces again,” says Patsalis.
If London were in the orange zone, businesses can have a maximum capacity of up to 50 people. But in the red zone that number is trimmed down to ten.
The city moves into the red zone this coming Tuesday. Here are some other regulations to keep in mind:
- Establishments are only allowed to open until 10 p.m.
- Liquor is allowed to be served only until 9 p.m.
- Contact tracing is required for all seated patrons
- A limit of 4 people can sit in one table
