It’s certainly not an understatement to say that the pandemic has changed a lot of things.
One of those things is how students learn and go to school.
When quarantine happened last March, everything switched to online learning. Students have been having Zoom classes rather than in-person.
But as the months have gone on, things have changed again, and students are back in class. It isn’t completely full-time, but it is a start to bringing back some form of normalcy.
High school student Bre Sanderson, gives her thoughts on being back at school.
“It’s certainly a new experience being back. There are many precautions put in place and a lot of rules to follow, but it’s to keep everyone safe. It’s definitely a learning curve with the masks and social distancing, it’s also really weird to have a lot fewer people in the classroom, but it’s something you get used to.”
Bre says she feels safe with all of the precautions in place, but hopes that those around her don’t get lazy and start ignoring the rules. With new precautions and rules in place, there have also been changes to her schooling experience.
“We switch every other day from online with some Zoom classes, to in-person. They’ve split up our classes, so we have half of us at school every day. It’s kinda nice and better this way, I’ve found we get more attention when learning and it’s easier to focus with less voices in the classroom. I did get lucky, because I managed to get put in the same group as my friends, it certainly makes going to school during this time more enjoyable.”
The way things are now, seem to be the new “normal.” It’s been a year of wearing masks and social distancing, and for schools, it seems like alternating between online and in-person will stay this way, at least for the rest of this year. There’s no predicting how things will change again, but the number one priority should always be keeping the students and teachers safe while completing their education. It may not be ideal, but it’s what is working at the moment and it’s keeping everyone safe which is what matters most.
“It may be really annoying to hear all the rules we have to follow constantly from our teachers, but I know they have to remind us in order to keep us and themselves safe.”
The future isn’t clear for what’s going to happen, but as long as everyone does what they need to stay safe, everything should turn out just fine. It’s a change for both students and teachers, but they seem to have made it work for right now.
