It’s been a year since the COVID-19 lockdowns. To commemorate in a positive way, the Fanshawe Music Industry Arts students have released a “Quaran-tune” playlist. The playlist consists of songs recorded by the MIA students and grads.
The students wanted to make the best out of a negative situation, which sparked the idea of a playlist for the public to enjoy.
Daniel Brodbeck is the program coordinator for the Music Industry Arts Program and Audio Post Production. He says it’s a fantastic thing they created and it’s great how they’re shining the light on the positive parts of this.
“Their idea was really to sort of shine a light on the fact that our what our students and grads have done since previous March,” He says, “just kind of showing that they haven’t stopped and they keep continuing on.”
Brodbeck also added with the lockdowns, the MIA grads were able to produce more music. “It’s a pretty neat thing to to see the whole variety of it, but to show that they haven’t slowed down,” Brodbeck stated, “In some cases, they’ve maybe released more, because they had more time.”
With the lockdowns cancelling concerts and live events, local artists have been spending their time working on their self-development by creating more music. “It was just neat to see some positive outcome of all this just to show that our students and musicians in general, just don’t stop,” He says, “I think it’s kind of the lesson in the whole thing, which is great.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has halted many industries, but the music industry keeps on moving. The playlist features over 50 songs from 28 artists enrolled in the MIA program, including current students and recent grads. You can check out the playlist down below.
