Plans for the GO Transit expansion begin October 18, 2021 for Southwestern Ontario.
Metrolinx will be providing weekly GO train trips travelling between London and Union Station in Toronto that includes one trip to leave London in the early morning, and a returning trip set for the evening.
With the new service expansion, transit will extend beyond the Kitchener line, including stops in St. Marys and Stratford.
Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney shared today’s announcement about GO Transit launching for the first time in London.
“To get us to this announcement required a number of steps including our first step, which was our government’s first regional transportation plan called ‘Connecting the Southwest’, which we released in early 2020 and one of the key action items that was highlighted in that plan was the need to enhance intercommunity rail service in the region.”

As feedback from the Southwestern public poured in to request more connections within the region, Mulroney indicates that the addition of London, St. Marys and Stratford among the Kitchener line will establish a connected community was a direct response to the public’s request.
In regards to long-term goals of GO Transit services for Southwestern Ontario, Mulroney is excited the latest announcement for London is the first phase for their series of plans.
“The next phases will depend on the feedback that we get. While we do know we want to increase service, and we want to bring journey times down, we also want to get feedback from riders.”
Metrolinx will be setting up a website for people to provide feedback directly.
“We want to provide transit solutions that make sense to people in the Southwest that they need.”
