As a Student, its important to be frugal and save money where it counts. As a financially unstable college student, these are some of the tips and tricks I’ve learned as a second year college student.
Firstly, for those unaware there is OSAP. OSAP is the Ontario Student Assistance Program. It’s made widely available for students in Ontario in all types of different financial and living situations. 2021-22 online OSAP application open for full-time and part-time students and micro-credentials programs, as well as online applications.
Secondly there’s SPC, it’s a loyalty program aimed at students that is at the low cost of 10 dollars monthly. On occasion SPC will give away free memberships as well so be on the lookout for special limited time promotions. Save on top brands like Samsung, Apple, Indigo, H&M, and more for your schooling needs and more.
If you’re like me, you’ll aim to only shop on student discount days. Often major grocery store chains will offer days where if students bring in a valid student ID, you can get upwards of a 20% discount. Look for your preferred grocery chains special student discount days (Food basics conducts there’s on Tuesdays.
Looking for some entertainment? Students can apply for a premium student Spotify account. Which offers Unlimited ad-free music and more. For just $4.99 a month while you’re in school, with the ability to cancel anytime. Travel and study with your tunes all year round!
Lastly, if you need to get around town there’s the LTC student bus passes. For the Fall 2021 Semester, full-time, post-secondary ‘blended learning’ students at the London Campus that have paid for their Ancillary Fee Package will receive the bus pass after you have obtained your FANCard. This is something that can come in handy if you ever need a lift to school or anywhere you may need at your own leisure. More details can be found on the Fanshawe Student Union Website.
Watch your spending habits and be on the lookout for the tips listed above and any of your own money saving methods!
