7-3, 11-4, 10-1. That is how the Fanshawe Men’s Baseball team started off the season. Three straight losses only scoring 8 runs total. With a team that does not have many veteran players, it took a little bit for the Falcons to get the bats going. Since then, the Falcons have gone on a 3 game winning streak collecting a total of 30 runs over the three tilts. Second-year Fanshawe Broadcast-Journalism student Liam Carson plays 1st and 3rd base for the Falcons and knew that it would take a little bit to get the team going as there was more than a few first year players.
With 19 first year players, it was not going to be smooth sailing right from the first pitch, “Definitely started off slow. Everyone was shy. We didn’t have many veterans so it was a lot of first year new guys who were very quiet. And now with the team being made and seeing each other every single day, people have connected and came a lot closer I’d say and treating each other with more respect and like a family rather than just somebody else. That’s playing baseball.” Carson said when asked about the team morale.
The season so far has picked up for the Falcons albeit, now on a 3 game winning streak. They seem to have found their stride and the perfect balance in the clubhouse, “we started the season with three quick losses. But we bounced back. We are now more of a team. We’re actually a family now and everybody’s connecting better and we’re on a three game win streak right now.” The Falcons bested Durham and Centennial College picking up those 3 wins.

With 8 more games left in the season, against some big teams, the Falcons are ready for anything and optimistic, “There’s a couple very good teams out there. Humber actually just came off a 34 to one win or something like that. It was crazy. But we have a very solid team and I know we can definitely compete with these other big name teams.” The Falcons finish off their season playing the same Humber College team.
The Falcons take on George Brown College Saturday at 1 and 3:30 at Aldridge Field.
