Bond, James Bond, is a name that has become so synonymous with Daniel Craig. When you see him, you think that’s James Bond. It’s a bond with a role that doesn’t happen too often. That’s why when Daniel Craig announced that this would be his last adventure as James Bond. An expected sadness dawned over the film. Yet, there was still an essence of excitement but also a knowing of the eventual distress that would come. No Time To Die is about James Bond being pulled back into the fold to face a deadly technological enemy. Safin, a murderous leader, played by Rami Malek, plans to unleash a nanobot plague on humanity that would wipe it out without any chance of failure. Bond must find Safin and stop him before he achieves his goal.
The film sounds like your usual James Bond adventure, but the film succeeds in surprising you. Instead of a shallow spy movie, you get an action-packed drama filled with just as much intensity as there is emotion. The cast of this movie plays perfectly as Daniel Craig puts forward what could be the best performance as James Bond by any actor ever. Rami Malek stuns as a cold and lifeless murderer that is so frightening and uneasy to watch, yet you can’t take your eyes off him. These two play off of each other in such a brilliant depiction of true good against true evil.
The film’s writing was also quite well done. The obvious one-liners did come off as being corny sometimes, but it is James Bond, after all. This truly felt like it was written to keep you just as desperate as the characters you are watching. Every moment left you at the edge of your seat, begging to see good prevail in the darkest of times. The film’s pacing was consistent and only felt off towards the third act of the film. You feel that all that has happened leads to something massive, and the film drags a little bit to get to the final act. When you do get to the last act, you are met with what will be known as one of the best final acts of any Bond film.
No Time To Die felt like a culmination of an era and took the best parts of James Bond films and combined them into one memorable experience. No Time To Die may have been Craig’s last ride, but it put a cherry on one of the best Bond film eras in the franchise’s history.
