Pete’s Sports. An iconic store and company for many young athletes, baseball or hockey, throughout the London area. After over forty years on the corner of Elizabeth Street and Oxford Street East, Pete’s has been forced to find a new home.
Whether you have just driven past it as you look out and see the quaint grey building right beside the barracks, or you have had the privilege of shopping inside, everyone knows Pete’s Sports from somewhere.
The sport store has collaborated with many organizations throughout the years and is continuing to grow. Now it’s growth will be coming out of a new location just down the road.
Dylan Janes is the Corporate Sales Manager at Pete’s. He says the move shouldn’t have too much impact on how the stores runs and the level it’s held to.
“Hopefully we can keep the ‘iconic’ part with the name still, right,” Dylan jokes. “I mean I think we go a long way especially being independent like we’ve been and being a sports excellence store, our customer base has been really good.”
Pete’s new home is in the Bellwood Plaza just down the road from the iconic grey building. A 5-minute walk from the original store.
Though the distance of the move was small, Janes says the move had its effect.
“You know how moving goes with most things, especially a business that’s been established for the last 40 years in the same location,” he says. “It takes a toll but it’s nice to have a new spot and it was nice to be able to clean up and get going with everything.”
The store officially opened on January 10 and according to the staff, so far so good. Sport excellence, indeed.
