Tonight, the London Lightning extended their win streak to four games coming away with a 120-104 victory against the Sudbury Five. The Lightning are the National Basketball League of Canada’s top team with a record of 19-4.
The Lightning came out strong putting up 71 points in the first half while limiting the Sudbury Five to 45 points. London scored 50 of their 71 points in the paint during the half leading to a strong 68.1 field goal percentage. The benched played a role as well outscoring the Five’s bench 25-4 in the half.
The Sudbury Five came out strong to start the second half winning the third quarter 32-22 but ultimately the Lightning were still up 93-77 after three quarters. The Five were able to cut the Lightnings lead to 10 with a 1:36 left in the game, but ultimately the Lightning rallied and closed the game out.
The Lightning were carried by a strong performance from Jordan Burns who finished with 34 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds, team leader in points per game Cameron Forte also chipped in 26 points and 11 rebounds. It was an efficient night from the whole team as London shot 60.9% from the field. Braylon Rayson led the way for Sudbury finishing with 28 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds.
After the game Head Coach Doug Plumb said he thought his team executed the game plan well, other than a few moments of fatigue, but the team answered their runs, and got back to their game plan.
The Lightning are back in action for their season finale this Thursday May. 12, at 7 p.m.
