Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives may have been given a second majority government but that wasn’t enough to dampen Terence Kernaghan and his supporter’s spirits Thursday night.
At Wink’s eatery on Richmond, supporters of NDP candidate Terence Kernaghan showed up en-masse to watch the results of the election live.
And they weren’t disappointed.

“I believe in a lot of the NDP’s morals and I’ve met Terence before. He actually spoke at a walk-out that I was a part of back in 2020 before
COVID when I was still in high school and I thought that he was really eloquent, he seemed really friendly and like a great guy when I met him and that was absolutely true,” says Niamv, a volunteer for Kernaghan’s campaign who just finished her first year at UFT and is back in London for the summer.
“I find Terence to be a really inspirational person,” says Niamv. “He obviously really cares a lot about the people around him and in his particular riding.”
Jeff, another volunteer for the campaign, spent his time before the party knocking on doors and reminding people that it’s election day.
“Terence is a wonderful MPP. I’ve been an NDP supporter forever and Terence, I have busloads of respect for Terence,” says Jeff. “He really cares for the community, he’s a great voice for London North Centre in Queen’s park.”
TV’s across the restaurant were all tuned into the election and the crowd roared their approval every time Terence was shown in the polls.
Despite an early close race with PC candidate Jerry Pribil, he quickly outpaced his opponent by 4000 votes and was declared the winner of London North Centre.
“I spoke to the Conservative candidate, and I congratulated him on the very clean, very respectful campaign and look forward to sitting down with him to discuss the needs of small businesses to make sure that they’re going to finally be listened to [by] the Ford government,” says Terence Kernaghan.
He says that even though everyone was projecting his riding as being a close race, after going door to door he knew that it was going to be between the Progressive Conservatives and the NDP and is overwhelmed by the riding deciding to re-elect him.
Thank you to the voters of London North Centre for putting your trust in me. I am so honoured. I am looking forward to another four years to fighting for what matters to you. #LdnOnt #onpoli #ndp pic.twitter.com/VOH4A8XpAp

While he’s glad that he was re-elected, Kernaghan was quick to point out that he was there for all constituents, not just the ones who voted for him.
“For us, you always campaign like you’re 10 points down,” says Marie, who works in Kernaghan’s office. “So we’ve been going hard at it. We have knocked on tens of thousands of doors, we’ve made phone calls over and over and over. We’ve been working at this for months and months and months. We always felt confident.”
“We’re very ready.”
