The Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) held the return of its annual Chili Cook-Off fundraiser on October 12th in the B-Building Atrium and at the Student Center. This was the first time since the pandemic that the event took place and gave the Fanshawe community an opportunity to be together again for a great cause.
Dozens of people attended the event in support of the Elgin-Middlesex United Way and the FSU. In exchange for a small donation, participants were able to try several different chilis, including both traditional and vegetarian options.
Nancy Delorey is Fanshawe College’s United Way Sponsor Employee. She explained what the event was all about.
“It’s an annual event that Fanshawe hosts. People can come down and make a minimum donation of $5 and you get 3 chilis, a bun, cookie and a drink.”
Delorey went on to add that it’s great that the event is Fanshawe-based and unique to the school as all three of the chilis are made by people at Fanshawe.
“Two [of the chilis] were made by members of the FSU, the third [was made] by Chartwells Canada.”
Everyone who made a donation and tried each chili was able to vote for their favourite.
The winning chili has not yet been announced and the FSU has not said how much money they raised through the campaign.
