Fanshawe College will not have a reading week during the first semester. Students had five days to rest during Thanksgiving. However, that is the only time they can officially prepare for midterms.
Fanshawe is not the only one to not introduce reading week to the first term. Queens University at Kingston, Ontario has no reading week as well. However, Western University in London has not cancelled its study break for students.
That’s kind of unfair. My sister goes to Western, she bragged about it to me,
complains Natalia, Fanshawe Student
Fanshawe had no study week for three years, since the beginning of COVID. Online studies suggested having enough time to prepare for exams, as most students spent free time at home.
However, this year the college is back to in-class learning and reading week should have been reintroduced, following the logic.
We don’t know how to balance it: studies, all the work and the work from home too. If there’s no study week, how are we going to pass the exam?
explains Kris, student of Office Administration
Some students had no idea that Fanshawe doesn’t have a reading week.
I did not know until you just told me, I am shocked,
says Hannah, Fanshawe student
Even though it is stated in most program schedules, students still struggle with finding time for preparation for exams. It is understandable, since schedules for some programs can be overloaded.
Fanshawe College has a reading week in the second semester. It is the last week of February and usually is introduced to prepare for second term midterm exams.
