Being in a long-distance relationship can be tough when students are in college and the statistics aren’t in their favor for them.
Blogger Mrjana Dobric wrote about some statistics in a blog she posted. On the blog, Dobric wrote she said the average long-distance couple lives 200 kilometers away. Dobric says that the average long-distance relationship ends in 4.5 months. As well she mentions how in long-distance relationships statistics indicate that 55 percent of people are worried that their partner will meet someone else.
Jackie Gendron was someone who was in a long-distance with her boyfriend for all four years of college. As well as for a few months after college due to her job. She is someone who has experienced all the ups and downs that come with being in a long-distance relationship.
Gendron says “Don’t force the relationship to happen. If it’s not working out, it’s not working out. but forcing each other to spend all their time together or fly to each other or drive to each other or talk all the time. Kind of takes away from your experience in college.”
The New York Post said that people who have been in long-distance relationships claim that it has a high chance of succeeding. As well that the company Refinery 29 did a study and report up to 75 percent of college students have been in a long-distance relationship at one point in their life.
Gendron is now married to the man she was in a long-distance with during her college years. They got married in the summer after being together since 2014 and shortly after that they moved to Norway. She now lives there with her husband Miles Gendron who plays professional hockey there. They are a good example of people who were able to stay together through the years of being long-distance.
