Esports is a growing industry with lots of money involved and players from around the world compete in a bunch of different titles professionally. It has become so popular many college’s and university across North America are offering scholarships to players and building state of the art gaming facilities for its players. Women have started to make a name for themselves in the pro esports scene and have slowly made their way to colligate esports.
“I hope that one day I can inspire other women to get into esports” Marcelle Platt said after she became the first woman in the collegiate esport of “VALORANT” to win (NECC) National Esports Collegiate Conference.
Marcelle as seen in the middle of the picture goes by the online handle “Splatt” and says getting into esports was a nervous experience as confidence was one of her biggest challenges as well as being the only woman surrounded by a team of all men.
“I had to persevere and I eventually found the confidence and the team took me in with open arms which helped with the transition” Marcelle says about joining Fanshawe’s “VALORANT” team.
When asked to describe the feeling of becoming the first woman champion she said “It’s a moment i’ll remember forever we rode a high and its a pretty indescribable feeling”
Marcelle returns as part of Fanshawe FUEL Academy this season in hopes of becoming one of only a handful of players to win back to back championships
