One of the primary meanings of “range” is a wide variety. So it is appropriate that this season on Routes & Branches & Beyond we’re featuring a series called “Summer on the Range.” And variety is no stranger to this show. Indeed, Not to labour the word play, but it would be strange if there was uniformity on this show. I don’t find variety to be “strange.” I find it necessary for human life. So this show has reverent hornpipes, Quebec suites, cowboy swagger ‘n swing, jug-free rural ballads, jazzgrass wanderings, alt-country blues, west coast celtic rock, end-of-the-night waltzes, Turkish revery, the careless immaturity of the mass consumer, Irish cajun polka Queens, royal kitchen games and thoughtful jigs.
From musicians like Leveret, Asleep at the Wheel, Yves Lambert Trio, Jim Kweskin, Béla Fleck, Robbie Fulks, Stephen Fearing, Darol Anger & Mike Marshall, The Outside Track, Habib Koité & Eric Bibb, The Lash, Georgia Lewis, and Kíla. Put down that jaw harp and join us.
