Within a 24 hour span, two separate vehicles have been engulfed in flames off Highbury and Highway 401.
On September 21, members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), London Police Service, and London Fire Department were dispatched to Highway 401 eastbound for a vehicle fire on the off-ramp to Highbury Avenue.
The driver of the transport truck pulled off the highway and exited the vehicle at which time it began to smoke and eventually caught fire.
Traffic in the area was slowed for around two hours while emergency crews were on scene.
The driver of the transport truck isn’t reported to have sustained any injuries.
Then on September 22, members of the Middlesex County OPP, London Fire, and Middlesex-London Paramedic Service were sent to the same are off Highbury and Highway 401 to reports of a vehicle rollover.
The investigation revealed a single vehicle, eastbound on Highway 401, left the roadway and rolled in the south ditch. At which point, the vehicle caught fire.
Three occupants within the vehicle managed to escape, with two of the occupants being transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
For the roll-over, two occupants were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One 24 year old has also been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old of London, has been charged under the Criminal Code with operation causing bodily harm as well as dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
