A popular Mediterranean supermarket is making its way to London and many locals are anticipating its arrival.
The market, Adonis, based out of Montreal, specializes in bringing products from Eastern Europe and the Middle East to sell. It has garnered a lot of popularity in cities with large local Lebanese and Greek communities, like Toronto.
Londoners Vaselios Kallinteris and George Georgallidis, who are members of the London Greek Community were jovial with the news, as this is a first where they can get a taste of their homeland in their backyard
“I think it’s the best because I can’t find them here for everything from Greek food, you know; they bring over nice fish, Greek oil and the many different varieties of cheeses.” said Vaselios Kallinteris.
Georgallidis, a second generation Greek says this a first for London in all the time he has lived here
“I think it’s going to be great, of course as a Greek, It’s definitely something very unique that I don’t believe is in London so I’m actually very curious to go when it opens”. Said Georgallidis.
Both have said that they have had to travel as far as Toronto to shop for groceries as many small businesses and other ethnic grocers have certain products from Greece.
“If I happen to be in or near Toronto and I need to get groceries that definitely go to Greektown or somewhere else in the city that would have the product.” said Georgallidis
Vaselios Kallinteris says that things for him and his wife will get easier now that they know hat Adonis will have everything they’re looking for.
“You have to go out of town for a lot of things, especially for Greek food because, I can’t find everything here.” said Kallinteris
The location for the market is slatted to open in 2025.
