London Mayor Josh Morgan has issued a statement on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Morgan posted the statement on Twitter/X Monday evening, in which he called for a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages in the region, the surrender of Hamas, and safe access to humanitarian aid for those affected.
“I want peace and security for Palestinians”, Morgan wrote, “I want peace and security for Israelis”.
He also highlighted the effect that the conflict is having on Londoners.
“The ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to cause intense pain, grief, and trauma for London’s Jewish, Muslim, and Palestinian communities… Since the start of this war, we have seen a rise in anti-Palestinian acts, antisemitism, and Islamophobia”.
Morgan acknowledged that he has little influence on the world stage as a mayor from Ontario, but will “continue to do all [he] can to achieve those objectives in London” and is encouraging Londoners to do the same.
“Please, support one another in our neighbourhoods, workplaces, and schools. Choose calm and compassion over fear and division. These aren’t just empty words, this is my sincere wish for all of us”.
