Following Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly’s in person hearing for cross checking Ottawa Senators forward Ridley Greig after his slap shot into an empty net, Leafs forward Ryan Reaves stated in an interview prior to the incident to “Make Hockey Violent again”.
Many people are against the sports often aggressive nature but there are also many people that enjoy that aspect of the game.
Obviously, the game has changed but the question is has it been for better or for worse?
Students at Fanshawe College gave their reaction to Reave’s statement and one group of students agreed with the statement.
“I think Reaves is absolutely right, Grieg disrespected the Leafs and Morgan Reilly did the right thing”. Says one of the students.
There was also a fan who was sort of on the fence about the idea.
“I wish I saw more policing in the game, I don’t Necessarily want more fighters”. Says another student.
It has been an ongoing debate if some of the violent aspects of the game are appropriate or not, But it seems like a split decision when it comes to the topic of violence in hockey.
