Fanshawe College is back in full swing.
To help combat the stress of the new semester, Fanshawe has added a new counseling service.
“We do have a new offering and it is our single session service,” says Fanshawe counselor, Gillian Villanueva.
This new counseling service focuses less on crisis-level concerns and ongoing counseling, but rather on current issues students may be dealing with.
“They’ve just got a problem or an issue or concern that they’re dealing with right now, kind of in the moment and they would like to get the opportunity to talk it through, get some ideas, be heard and deal with it that way,” says Villanueva.
This new service will be available Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m..
“If a student is interested in accessing that service they can just drop by the counseling office and ask to speak with one of our intake counselors,” says Villanueva. “It’s not necessarily a same-day service if the appointments are all booked on a particular day but they’ll be booked on to the next session.”
Fanshawe’s counseling and accessibility services are already busy with new students, according to Villanueva.
Villanueva says that Fanshawe has an established office of personal counseling and accessibility services.
“If students have a personal issue or concern and they’re wanting some input, they’re wanting to work through what’s going on for them, maybe get some strategies around how to manage, then they’re more than welcome to reach out,” says Villanueva.
