Two people have been charged with operation while impaired, which is a term the police use when the person charged wasn’t caught driving but they were caught in their car.
The first traffic stop happened around 9:30 early in the morning on Tuesday the 17th in St. Thomas. The police received a call about someone reporting a potential drunk driver spotted swerving out of their lane and driving over the curb.
The police found the vehicle and stopped it in traffic finding that the 37-year-old driver was impaired by alcohol, he was released with a future court date scheduled and his license suspended for 90 days.
The second impaired driver was stopped several hours later, around 2 am in Alymer. A 62-year-old resident was witnessed by police losing control of their vehicle after entering a roundabout, after stopping the car, police found that the driver was impaired by alcohol and drugs and driving with no license. Both impaired drivers are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
