Fanshawe College’s main campus will host the Career Opportunities Fair on Wednesday, September 25. This event is designed for students and alumni interested in networking and getting a job.
Next week, attendees will have the chance to connect with about 100 companies, prepare their elevator pitch, bring their resumes, and make a great first impression.
“I hope this job fair offers more part-time opportunities, because last year they focused more on full-time positions, which international students like me cannot do due to our limited work hours,” says Tin, a student from the Philippines.

“This event is two-sided: it gives students a chance to connect with companies in their field and explore opportunities—whether part-time, full-time, or co-op—and allows employers to chat with students, learn about their interests, and build careers in later on,” says Larissa Campbell, Mentorship Career Consultant at Fanshawe.
“I’m finding a job right now. I came to hear about Career Opportunities Fair through Instagram page and the Fanshawe page and I’m interested to know about it, what is there, and how the college can help me grow in my career,“ says Jeel, a student from India.
“We have a variety of industries represented, including healthcare companies, engineering firms, construction, business-related companies, IT, social services, childcare, and automotive, so there’s quite a range,” Campbell adds.

“I attended the Career Fair last year and I got there the childcare job I currently have, so this event is very important for me. I plan to attend again because I want to get to know different companies if I can find a job in my field,” says Smriti Thapa, a Personal Support Worker (PSW) student.
“It’s a great way to connect and network. Maybe it’s not an immediate job offer but you start building that connection and stay in touch with recruiters. Maybe by the time that you finish your program in a year, you can reach back out to them and you might have an opportunity that’s more aligned at that time for you,” Campbell concludes.

Being informed before attending is a good idea. Fanshawe College Consultant suggests doing research ahead of time on the My Fanshawe portal, under the Career Services employment section. This will help students choose which employers to chat with, understand who they are, and review their profiles, which often detail the available job opportunities. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in J building gyms.
