Market Lane will host on Saturday, October 12 the Pupusas Festival. Despite their popularity, this will be the first-time locals can enjoy a dedicated event featuring pupusas, along with other Latin foods, artisanal goods, and live music. The event offers an opportunity to honour Salvadorian roots and traditions while inviting the entire community to enjoy a unique culinary and cultural experience.
“Salvadorians have been in London for over 40 years, and to my surprise, when I moved here about nine years ago, I realized how popular this dish is,” said David Ayala, co-founder of Culturx and organizer of the event.
Ayala noted that many people confuse this traditional dish with Mexican gorditas or Colombian arepas, but they are distinct. “We have many people who love pupusas, but we’ve never had a pupusa festival, so I thought, why not? Let’s do it,” he added.
Even if the weather is a bit cold, the festival will offer hot chocolate, while vendors and activities like piñatas for kids will ensure there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
“We hope people appreciate the culinary adventure we’re embarking on for the first time, and we hope it won’t be the last,” Ayala concluded.
