For over a week before October 2. The city of London let citizens know about a road closure on Highbury Avenue. The road closure would last from nine in the morning on the Wednesday up to four in the afternoon on the same day. It would extend from Hamilton Road all the way to the 401 Highway in both directions.
The road closure was due to some potholes that needed to be fixed. It would take around 7 hours for the workers to fix the road. However, by around two in the afternoon cars could be seen entering and leaving through Highbury Avenue. The road was reopened, and traffic flowed as normal.
This event was still enough to affect the local businesses nearby. One McDonalds’ worker from the Hamilton and Highbury intersection mentioned how the closure affect business. Emily is the manager at the McDonalds. “Yeah, there’s been a sign on Hamilton for, like, a week now. Maybe, and it was closed from 9:00 to 4:00 today for, like, a cleanup and a pothole filling. Pretty sure and that slowed down the sales today for sure,” she says.
Another worker at the No Frills nearby talked about his experience with the situation. Paul is a long-time employee at the store. “Yeah it’s kind of affecting business you know what I mean, because you know this is like a lot of people’s stable like they like to shop around here and yeah just try to hope this doesn’t impact the business too much, hopefully this closure is not very long,” he says.
All the construction signs were put to the side earlier than expected as the job did not last the full seven hours. The road was opened relatively quickly. Both gas stations on the intersection of Hamilton Road and Highbury Avenue were unable to give a comment about the road closure.
