The cold weather is starting to make it’s way into London, and restaurants are slowly starting to debate whether or not they should keep their patios open, or close them up early.
“We’ve had a beautiful October, which has been really lovely to see and it allows people to kind of enjoy some food and drink outside on the patios that are still open.” said Director of culture & entertainment for Tourism London Natalie Wakabayashi.
“I think the nicer weather is always a key to get out and explore London right now. We live in a forest city, it’s one of the places that people love to visit to get outside and explore. So when it’s a nice day to do so, I think it really helps business.”
Wakabayashi also went on to discuss how some restaurants even use the winter time to their advantage.
“Everyone loves a little bit of winter too. I mean, everyone’s looking forward to some snow. Our winter partners like Bowler Mountain, our skating rinks, people come and enjoy those as well.”
In a Canada statistic, 44 percent of consumers who go to restaurants are more likely to visit the restaurant when there is outdoor seating and have patios open.
“I think what COVID taught us that patio season can be extended and people are willing to sit outside when it’s a little bit chillier.”
“A lot of our restaurant partners have invested in Heaters and blankets and other things that allow someone to sit comfortably as the temperatures drop a little bit at night.” Wakabayashi had said about restaurants being open later.”
As the list goes on, Wakabayashi concluded with her opinion on what Londoners should do moving forward.
“More than anything, it’s that people are more comfortable to sit outside, which is great to see. And if the sun keeps happening, let’s soak it all up and get as many patio days in as we can.”
Many restaurants throughout London have decided to keep their patios open for now, but monitor the weather closely so that they can prepare for their outdoor dining plans to slow down.
