Fanshawe College students gathered in large numbers to connect with potential employers at the Career Fair, where over 150 companies from various industries met job seekers. The event provided students a chance to explore job opportunities, submit resumes, and even secure on-the-spot interviews.
Employers from industries such as skilled trades, childcare, business, and technology highlighted the demand for skilled workers. Apurv, Vice President of Dawn Staffing Solutions, emphasized the growing opportunities in trades.
“There are huge opportunities in skilled trades. Manufacturing depends on it, and we’re seeing strong interest from students in engineering and technical programs,” he said.
The childcare sector also received positive engagement from students. A representative from Clinton Cooperative Child Care said, “We’ve had a great response. Students are eager and passionate about working with children.”
For students, the fair was not just about networking, it was a real chance to take a step toward their careers. One of the attendees, was optimistic. “There are so many opportunities! If you meet the requirements, you have a good chance of being hired. I’ve met employers in fields I’m interested in, and I’m hoping to hear back soon.”
Another student, looking for part-time work, shared his experience. “I talked to a few employers. Most asked me to apply online, but they explained the jobs well. I just hope it works because I’ve been applying online for a long time,” he said.
For international students, language barriers were a challenge, but one student emphasized the importance of communication. “It’s not about just handing in your resume. You need to engage with employers, ask about their company, and make a good impression. I’ve seen some students struggle with language, but improving English skills can really help in job hunting,” he explained.
For one student, the Career Fair turned into a life-changing moment when she got hired on the spot. “I gave my resume, got an interview right away, and now I’m hired! I didn’t expect it to happen so fast. It was shocking but exciting,” she said. She credited Fanshawe College for giving students this opportunity. “I really thank Fanshawe for hosting this event. Without it, I wouldn’t have gotten this job.”
The Career Fair left many students hopeful about their futures, proving that a simple conversation with an employer can open doors to new career opportunities.
