The final phase of the East London Link construction project has officially begun, marking an important step in improving transportation in the community. This phase will help students and residents move around more easily. Construction is expected to continue until September 30, 2024, but it could take longer if needed.
“This initiative is not just about construction; it’s about creating a more efficient and convenient transit system for our community,” said Sidarth, FSU president. “We are committed to keeping everyone informed and involved throughout this process.”
Work will begin on the east side of campus, starting at 4th Street and moving toward the emergency entrance near the main building. Eventually, construction will reach the Oxford-based entrance. This means some bus routes will need to be adjusted, but officials plan to manage these changes carefully to reduce disruptions for daily commuters.

To help students and community members stay updated, the FSU is sharing information on social media. “We encourage everyone to visit the Get Involved London website or subscribe to the East London Link email notifications for the latest updates,” Sidarth advised. “This way, students and community members can stay informed about any changes that might affect their commutes.”
One of the most noticeable improvements from the project will be the addition of dedicated bus lanes in the downtown area. These lanes, painted red to designate them for bus use only, will help reduce travel time for students commuting between the South or Downtown campuses and the main campus. “This project will ultimately make it easier for students to navigate their daily commutes, allowing them to spend more time on their studies and less time in transit,” Sidarth explained.
The East London Link is part of a larger effort to improve the London Rapid Transit system. While the project was initially expected to be completed by 2026, Sidarth mentioned that timelines can change. “I can’t comment on the exact timeline, as it may change, but we are hopeful for a timely completion,” he said.
