As the summer season comes near and the heat begins to build, Fanshawe College students are reminiscing about how they plan to spend their summer weather or wishing they could hold onto previous traditions.
For some, summer is a matter of leaving the city and spending time on the water.
“Usually during the summer, you know, I’m working full time, but when I do manage to get some time off, I go out to my friend’s cottage up in Sauble Beach,” explained Eric, a Fanshawe student. “It’s a good time, we kind of shred on jet skis the whole weekend and just do whatever just boat and swim. It’s a good time.”
That kind of vacation isn’t on everyone’s agenda.
“Uh, well, I’d be out of here during the summer usually, but here I am stuck at Fanshawe, so I’m really bummed,” said Jerome, a student at Fanshawe, shaking his head and chuckling.
Stuck in a classroom with the rest of the world can be frustrating but for some, even just a break would be a blessing.
“I don’t actually have any traditions, really,” said Seth. “When I was a kid we’d always go on a family holiday, but I haven’t had a holiday in 11 years. I would love to take one. I just prefer being outdoors, kind of being near the mountains, so for me I really want to go to Chamonix in France.”
Whether dreaming about the French Alps or being able to make time at the lake, students describe how summer still allows for a much-needed change of pace. With work, school and life piling up, even a little bit of quiet time outside can go a long way.
No matter what summer is to each person, everyone can agree that it is time to relax, bask in the sun, and create some memories, whether at a lake house, on a mountain path, or just taking a break between work shifts.
Summer is an awesome way to spend time outdoors, have fun and enjoy the company of friends and loved ones, so be sure to soak up the summer atmosphere in the next couple of months.
