Extreme heat warnings continue in London, with daytime highs of 30 to 35 degrees and humidex values of 40 to 45 until Tuesday, June 24, and end at night. However, it will possibly continue for some areas tomorrow. Says Environment Canada.
The City of London initiated its extreme temperature protocol, which includes opening cooling centres for Londoners who require shelter from the heat.
This is the List of Cooling centres:
- Central Library, London Public Library – Address: 251 Dundas St, London.
- East Lions Community Centre – Address: 1731 Churchill Avenue.
- North London Optimist Community Centre – Address: 1345 Cheapside Street.
- Startech.com Community Centre, YMCA, and Library – Address: 501 Southdale Rd W.
- South London Community Centre – Address: 1119 Jalna Boulevard.
“It’s important to remember that the library is always open for people to come and spend time when it’s hot. I’d remind Londoners that there are libraries throughout London, and they always welcome you to come, spend time, and stay cool.” Says Ellen Hobin, the manager of Marketing and Communications at the Central London Public Library.
Hobin also said that the Central Library is designated as a cooling center because it’s more convenient for people living downtown.
“We are busier. Londoners, in general, are looking for a cool spot, and they come here to spend time, go to a program, or borrow something to read. “
The Library Central Branch hours are Monday to Thursday: 9 A.M. – 9 P.M., Friday: 10 A.M.-6 P.M., and Saturday: 9 A.M.- 5 P.M.
