Canada Day is next week, and Londoners are getting ready to celebrate. The City of London is organizing an event with live music, food trucks, free recreational activities, and fireworks in Harris Park.
But Londoners are also setting off their fireworks to celebrate on July 1st. Stores across the city are heading into a busy week.
“It’s our busiest time of the year. During this week, we’ve always been busy compared to the last month or two months ago,” says Justin Bullard, team leader at Bob’s Fireworks.
“We’re able to sell on July 1st. So we used to be able to sell seven days before the holiday, which gave everybody a week to take a day to come down and buy from us. But the government has changed the bylaws so we can only sell five days before the holiday. “
Bullard also said that now they can sell four times a year. It used to be two.
The city of London emphasized that fireworks are only permitted to be discharged in backyards on Tuesday, July 1st, between sundown and 11 p.m. Fireworks set off on any other day or City streets or in City parks without a display permit or permission from the City Council are subject to enforcement and a possible fine.
