A 32-year-old man is pronounced dead after a canoe capsized on Lake Huron off Howdenvale Monday evening.
Emergency officials were called to the shore around 6 p.m. when a three-person canoe overturned in the lake. Two of them made it to shore, but the third man never came back up.
Onlookers came to the rescue, pulling the man from the lake and performing CPR until emergency responders showed up. Paramedics transported him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police would not identify the man, and the cause of the capsize is still unknown. The South Bruce OPP and the coroner are investigating.
As more individuals get in the water during the summer, police are reminding people once again to wear lifejackets, monitor the weather, and stay alert especially on large bodies of water like Huron.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call South Bruce OPP.
