Fanshawe College and Western University have announced the second annual “Battle of The Forest City.”
In a joint collaboration by Fuel Esports and the Western Esports & Gaming Association (WEGA), teams between the two schools will compete against each other in a variety of games. The event is being held to support Extra Life, a branch of the Children’s Miracle Network.
Extra Life is a gaming-focused initiative that empowers gamers and online communities to support local children’s hospitals.
Donations go to local member hospitals to fund critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services, along with innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, and child life services.
“Hosting and partnering with Western’s club program, WEGA, once again shows how our local gaming communities can come together to make a real difference for kids and families supported by the Children’s Miracle Network.” Says Tyler Hetherington, Esports Coordinator, Fanshawe Student Union.
To improve the experience for viewers compared to last year, Adam Boyce, Esports media lead for Fuel, said “there should be more activities for the crowd, less technical issues, and more interaction between the crowd and our broadcast.”
“We’re proud to be able to be part of an event that brings gamers together and harnesses that joy and competition to create such a real positive impact on children’s health.” said Suraj “Allo” Nandy, President of WEGA.
This year the goal is to raise $3,000 for Extra Life, on Nov. 8, fans and community members can participate by donating through links provided during the live broadcast or by helping spread the word about the event to friends and family.
Donations can also be made directly through the official campaign page at fsu.ca/extralife
