Over 500 people came together in London this weekend to celebrate Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights. The event was filled with colorful performances, traditional music, Bollywood dances, and delicious food, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere for families and friends.
Organized by a local community group, the festival wasn’t just about fun it also had a deeper purpose. The group hopes to connect the younger generation with Indian culture and values through events like this. “Celebrations bring people in. Then we try to inspire them to learn more and give back through community service,” said Vinod who was the Organizer of the event.
One special part of the evening was the announcement of Phase Two of a memorial project. The memorial honours Indian and Canadian soldiers who fought side by side during World War One. It’s being built in Hamilton at Veterans Place and aims to remind people of the shared history and sacrifices made for peace.
Diwali is a festival that celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. It’s a time for reflection, togetherness, and new beginnings and this year’s event did just that.
