Nina Tangri, The Associate Minister of Business released a statement claiming that the government will be helping out small businesses across Ontario by investing money.
In a statement from Vonny Sweetland, Director of Communications for the Office of Associate Minister of Small Business, it reads “The government has taken immediate action to enable over $11 billion in relief and support for businesses and workers. By deferring select provincial taxes for six months, this government is providing approximately $9 billion in urgent cash flow support to about 80,000 businesses.”
They also claim that entrepreneurs starting or expanding an existing business will be given the opportunity to apply for a grant up to $5,000.
XFM spoke to Terence Kernaghan from the NDP, he says “I don’t think that the Ford government is doing nearly enough. The release that they’re promising, it’s not altogether clear how much is net new versus previously announced money. They try to pat themselves on the back multiple times for the things that they do.”
XFM spoke to local businesses in downtown London, one claiming that the government put them in debt and they hope things are different this time. Another says it’s a great way to help people work on the things they’re passionate about and thinks if the plan is executed well, their business could grow.
In another statement from Tangri, it reads “In the coming months, we’ll be taking further steps to support small businesses with a suite of tools to guide succession planning and other critical decisions.”
