The federal government is taking action against Stellantis after the automaker decided to move planned Jeep Compass production from its Brampton, Ont., plant to shift to Belvidere, Illinois.
Industry Minister Mélanie Joly announced that a formal 30-day dispute resolution process will be launched by the end of the day. The process is aimed at recovering Canadian taxpayer money and ensuring production returns to Ontario.
Joly said the move is supported by government contracts and stressed that Stellantis must be held accountable for breaking its commitments to Canadian workers.
