The City of London is hitting the road with its budget talks, setting up pop-up information sessions at busy spots like community centers and malls. The goal is to help residents understand where their tax dollars go and how they can share their opinions about city spending.
Andi D. Markello, Manager of Accounting and Reporting with the City of London, says the sessions are designed to make the budget process easier to understand.
“We want to guide residents through the city’s annual budget update and show them how they can get involved,” Markello said. “It’s all about giving people a chance to have their voices heard during the 30-day feedback period.”
Each pop-up location includes displays showing how the city’s money is divided among services like roads, recreation, and emergency response. City staff are on hand to answer questions and explain how residents can submit feedback online or in person.
Ward 7 Councillor Corrine Rahman says public input plays a big role in shaping how the city plans its finances.
“When residents share their thoughts, it really does make a difference,” Rahman said. “This is their budget, and we want it to reflect the priorities that matter most to Londoners.”
Rahman adds that this year’s budget process comes with challenges from inflation and rising costs to balancing the city’s many competing priorities.
Residents who can’t attend in person can still have their say by visiting london.ca/getinvolved. The city will continue collecting feedback through community meetings and online surveys until the end of the 30-day public review period.
