The federal budget is attempting to streamline the process of applying for the Canada Disability Benefit by providing a one time $150 payment to help offset the costs of Disability Tax Credit certification, or re-certification. Around 465,000 people receive the Canada Disability Benefit according to budget 2025. 
Currently, people receiving the benefit can receive up to a maximum $2,400 a year, which would be $200 a month.

In addition the payments from the Canada Disability Benefit will not be treated as income under the Income Tax Act. The first supplemental payments are expected to be made before the end of 2026-27.
“Helping to reduce poverty and increase the financial well-being of low-income persons with disabilities is a key priority in the government’s work to build a fairer Canada,” according to budget 2025.
