In support of abused women, girls, and female-identifying people, the London Abused Women’s Centre invites the public to participate in “Wear Purple Day” as part of the the 16th Annual Shine the Light on Woman Abuse Campaign.
To show solidarity, the community is encouraged to wear purple on Saturday, Nov. 15 and take part in events that raise awareness about male violence and support survivors. Participants are invited to share photos or videos of themselves wearing purple on social media using the hashtag ‘#ShineTheLight2025’ and tagging @endwomanabuse on Instagram and on Facebook.
The visual support helps the experience of survivors–reminding them that the shame and blame of abuse belongs to the abuser; not the abused. Alongside the social media campaign, the Shine The Light Market will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Centennial Hall as well as a Trivia Night at Anderson Craft Ales on November 27.
Throughout the month of November, the overall goal of the campaign is to turn buildings and landmarks purple to stand solidarity with women, girls, and female-identifying people who have been subjected to trafficking, exploitation, or intimate partner violence.
The London Abused Women’s Centre continues to advocate for systemic change and provide support to survivors; reminding the community that solidarity starts with visibility.
