On November 20, Museum London will return with another History Now! event called ‘History Now! A Taste of London’s Black History’.
The special event, presented in partnership with Yaya’s Kitchen, invites participants into a compelling conversation about food, family, and cultural legacy.
Curator Malvin Wright of Yaya’s Kitchen and Zahra McDoom, TD Curator of Collections at Museum London, will be discussing the exhibit ‘Black Lives Lived Here: London Family Photos 1910s-1960s’ as well as the rich food heritage of London’s Black community.
The experience will trace how family gatherings, celebrations, and home-cooked meals reflect pre-colonial and Afro-diasporic traditions, and how resistance can come in the form of food. It will also offer insights into the culinary journey of early Black Londoners while simultaneously highlighting how Yaya’s Kitchen are remixing and reimagining traditions through their cooking today.
Admission is pay-what-you-can, with a suggestion donation of $10. However, the event will be free to all students and teachers with a valid ID. Registration is required and can be completed through Museum London’s website.
