The Canadian Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday Nov. 29, and Sunday Nov. 30 at the Fanshawe Golf Course.
This will be the second straight year that London has hosted the event, and it will be free to all attendees.
This year, Olympic silver medalist at the 2021 Tokyo Games, Mohammed Ahmed, will be competing in the open 10-kilometre race.
The men’s and women’s open 10-kilometre races will serve as qualifiers for the 2026 World Championships.
The event is expected to welcome more than 1,000 of the top distance runners across the country, and for the first time, will feature a para national championship race on Nov. 30.
The event will also see the debut of the senior 4 x 2-kilometre mixed relay race.
This year’s championships are the second of four Athletics Canada events to come to London over five years.
The 2027 Canadian Track & Field Championships and the 2028 Bell Track & Field Trials, which will serve as Olympic and Paralympic qualifiers, will also be coming to the Forest City over the next three years.
However, there is currently a snow squall warning in effect for Friday Nov. 28 that could impact the championship weekend, along with colder temperatures.
Athletics Canada announced on it’s Instagram that the athlete panel set for Nov. 27 has been cancelled “due to snow squall warnings in the London area and the associated safety concerns for athletes and attendees.”
The Athletics Canada website also advises all athletes and spectators to use their complimentary shuttle service when it comes to getting to the course. They say parking spots at the course will be limited due to the potential snow.
Environment Canada currently projects a 30 per cent chance of flurries on Nov. 29, and a 60 per cent chance of flurries or showers on Nov. 30.
The 2025 championships will be hosted by the Western Track and Field Club in collaboration with Tourism London, and the City of London.
