The Fanshawe Falcons volleyball teams got their first loss of November and it came in their very last game of the first half of season.
The Humber Hawks (4-3 men’s) (8-0 women’s) defeated the Fanshawe Falcons (7-2 men’s) (6-3 women’s.) The Hawks swept both teams with them going 3-0 for both games.
Women’s Game
The women’s game had a tight matchup throughout. The Falcons had 22, 21, and 22 points in the sets but were not able to take a set from the undefeated Humber Hawks.
For the Falcons Jillian Lancaster led the team with 9 points followed by Autumn Mikel with 7 and Natalie Campbell with 6. Simone Pinsonneault led the team with 17 assists in the matchup.
For the Hawks Hannah Manners led the team with 14 points followed by Amy Connelly with 13 and Lexi Sabo with 8. Jessie Mcdonaugh led the team with 30 assists.
Head coach for the Falcons Sean Pellow says the team is looking to train hard for the next couple of week before the holiday break and work on some technical things as well “We’ve got a tough start to the new year with Niagara, Conestoga and Humber, which are all the three teams we’ve lost to”
The start of the second half of the season is tough for the Falcons but because they’ve played these teams earlier on this season they know how they play and they know what to work on.
Men’s Game
The men’s game was a close matchup as well. The Falcons had 17, 19, and 22 points in their sets but were not able to take a set from the Hawks.
For the Falcons Tanner Paterson led the team with 10 points followed by Jayden Crowther with 9. Jakob Curtis led the team with 28 assists.
For the Hawks they had two double-digit scorers with Paul Manna and Teyven Blackmore each scoring 14. Nicolas Kozij led the Hawks with 26 assists.
Head coach for the Falcons Patrick Johnston says “We expected a bit of a different lineup for Humber, so that required some pivoting in the game plan.”
The men’s team also has a tough second half of the season with them playing Niagara, Conestoga, and Humber with the Falcons only having a win against Niagara.
Next Game
The Falcons are looking to get another winning streak going when they come back from the holiday break. The first game they play is against the Niagara Knights which will be an away game for the Falcons on January 10th with the women’s games starting at 1 with the men’s game at 3.
